Most modern people have more than enough clothes in their wardrobes, so there is no problem in changing linen. Dirty clothes are just put into a linen basket, sorted by color and fabric composition and then washed – simple and clear. However, some clothes are put in the basket, and then in the washing machine, which do not belong with the other clothes. We are speaking about sportswear, which shall be washed separately if you want to preserve their attractive look and special properties, as well as to extend their service life.
Sportswear? What is it?
Of course, sportswear is not a fake sports suit from the nearest family store and even more so not the famous one-size jogging pants with “bubbles” on their knee part. It is special clothes for fitness, jogging, thermal underwear, activewear, clothes for skiing and snowboarding, as well as tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and, of course, directly sport outfits. All these are made of special fabrics, often with a complex, multi-layer composition and even more so complex structure of fibers. They are impregnated with special compositions to prevent their wetting or increase protective properties, and require therefore a special care, so that they would serve long and loyal to their owner, without losing their functional qualities and characteristics.
Washing sportswear: strict rules
So, how to wash sportswear in such a way as not to “wash out” all the functionality from the fabric? It suffices to observe some simple recommendations:
sportswear shall be washed separately from all other linen and after every workout, skiing, swimming, etc.;
after a not intense work-out, it suffices to simply rinse the T-shirt or leggings in cold water without adding detergents and let them dry on hangers;
the water temperature must not exceed 40 degrees, otherwise there is a risk that, for example, membrane clothing will simply be boiled, and the fibers of the fabric will stick together, so and it can only be thrown away. In general, the optimum temperature for washing “sports” fabrics is 15-30 degrees;
for machine wash, set the delicate mode. In addition, it is recommended to use special bags for washing, especially for sports underwear and clothes made of elastic fabrics: T-shirts, leggings, leotards, swimwear;
no bleach and chlorine shall be used, otherwise the item will not only lose color, but also the fibers structure will be destroyed. For example, water-repelling properties of membrane fabric are completely lost after exposing it to bleach with chlorine;
centifugal spin is impermissible: it ruins fibers of sports fabrics. Twisting and heavy wringing-out of sportswear by hand must be avoided because of the risk of damaging fibers;
ordinary washing powder is not suitable for washing items made of high-tech fabrics: it is clogged into the fibers of the fabric and does not wash out. The result, again, is rather sore: the clothes will lose their properties, as well as their appearance, and when wearing them, itching can appear due to the powder particles, which got into the fabrics and then easily come into contact with your skin. In addition, the powder clogs the fibers of the fabric, it loses its “breathing” qualities and, accordingly, stops working;
sportswear drying also requires a special approach. Clothes shall be dried straightened on the hangers (i.e. light T-shirts, windbreakers, trousers) or horizontally (heavy clothes which can get stretched under their own weight). You can place the item on a terry towel and roll them together loosely. Under no circumstances shall sportswear be dried on a radiator or near other sources of hot air – high temperature will cause deformation of clothes and loss of their qualities;
ironing spandex, lycra, elastane items has to be careful, membrane clothing is not ironed at all. The reason is the same: a hot iron can deform or even melt the fabric fibers.
Of course, both beginners in sports and professionals are concerned about the question of how and what to wash clothes for work-outs and outdoor activities with, especially since there are so many “not” statements. Actually, things are not so difficult as it may seem. Yes, sportswear must not be washed with powder, but it can and shall be washed with specially designed liquid agents. For example, COTICO liquid detergent for sportswear from the B&B Company suits it perfectly. It is free of phosphates and chlorine, is suitable for all types of sportswear, including items of membrane fabric and with water repellent impregnation. It not only cleans the fabric excellently, but also extends its service life. The agent meets the highest standards of Israeli cosmetics.
Sportswear is a wonderful achievement of the modern science. High-tech clothes are able to retain warmth, ensure perfect evaporation of moisture from the skin, being perfectly permeable to air, are affordable to everyone. Contemporary means for treatment of such clothing will help you preserve its unique qualities and an attractive appearance for long.
